June 2, 2009 This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business. It was appropriate that I visited with Suzie Hall of Cornerstone Design just before Earth Day. Her company has a simple mission — to create beautiful, healthy and high-performance interior spaces. Cornerstone Design concentrates on green, or sustainable, design using LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) principles. Suzie has an ASID certification, which means she is an American Society of Interior Designer. This coveted classification is awarded based upon study, exams and work experience. Suzie started her business in 1992 as a home-based business. The company grew rapidly, and eight years later she relocated into a commercial building that features the concepts she values. The office was designed and built to Cornerstone's own LEED-CI Gold Certification standards. Suzie's goal was to demonstrate that green building can be beautiful and is the right thing to do, and I can attest to the fact that her office fits into this category. Suzie took me on a walking tour of the facilities, and I was impressed with the wall decor, countertops, floor coverings, and office accoutrements that all showcase environmental design. It was fascinating to hear of the material, much of it recycled, that is used in the components. As with other projects Suzie completes, the facility optimizes energy performance, works to reduce or eliminate waste and creates a healthy, comfortable and attractive indoor environment. Suzie Hall and Cornerstone Design aim to design today for tomorrow's generation. Every project Suzie completes for commercial, medical and high-end residential clients has green aspects to it including creative space planning, dynamic material selection, cohesive furniture plans, value, dependability, and environmental considerations.
