October 28, 2009 This is Fred Ball, Zions Bank, speaking on business. I've talked before on this program about my love for ethnic cuisine. It extends to all varieties - from Greek to Mexican to Thai. My mouth is watering just thinking about the succulent fare I've experienced along the Wasatch Front. After talking to Edwin Morillo, owner of Sampan Chinese Cuisine at Jordan Landing, I may have another ethnic restaurant to visit. Edwin tells me he was recently searching for a new business opportunity. He discovered that Sampan at Jordan Landing was available, so he researched the company. Discovering its sterling reputation and strong client base, he decided to purchase it a few months ago. Sampan Chinese Cuisine features American Chinese food. Diners can choose from a wide selection of dishes in beef, chicken, shrimp or pork. They also offer fried, steamed or mixed rice in both brown and traditional white. Some of the eatery's most popular items include sweet 'n sour chicken and the snowball shrimp dinner. Edwin says Sampan was already a well-oiled machine when he took over so he has kept the restaurant and its menu the same. He has received many compliments on the quality food. He appreciates customer feedback because both compliments and complaints help him assess what he's doing well and where he needs to improve. Edwin feels a strong commitment to his customers, doing everything he can to ensure their dining experience is a success. He tries to help the restaurant have a welcoming atmosphere so customers feel like family or friends coming home. Salt Lake City Weekly voted Sampan Chinese Cuisine the Reader's Choice for Best Takeout for several years running. Edwin is committed to maintaining this reputation through his high level of customer service and by providing only the freshest cuisine.
