LD PRECISION MACHINING

August 18, 2010

This is Chris Redgrave, Zions Bank, speaking on business.

The United States is a wonderful place to live, and let me tell you why: We have unlimited opportunities! And that can present all kinds of business possibilities.

Lee DeFever discovered this for himself over the course of his career. He began working in a machine shop in California 37 years ago and proceeded to learn the business inside and out. Later, he managed several large machine shops until the company he worked for was purchased by a business in Cedar City. He moved to Cedar City and worked for that company for four years until he purchased it. He called his new enterprise LD Precision Machining.

Up to that point, Lee’s wife, Janet, had been a stay-at-home mom and thought her husband would soon be retiring. When he purchased his company in 2002, with the intention of providing more personalized service, better quality control and better parts from right here in the United States, Janet was excited and jumped right in to take care of sales, ordering, bills, shipping and customer relations. The company is now classified as a woman-owned business with Janet owning 51 percent of the company and Lee owing the other 49.

LD Precision Machining provides a wide variety of machine components. This includes everything from throttle screws to custom-made fuel systems to fasteners and washers for the aerospace industry. The company also provides components for the defense industry. One of the newest products is the Bullseye Tip, a field archery tip, which can be found in more than a dozen shops across Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.

Janet says the company has created hundreds of different components for customers all over the U.S.A. Both Janet and Lee hope their quality parts can speak for themselves and encourage customers to look locally first before going overseas.

For Zions Bank, I’m Chris Redgrave. I’m speaking on business.
