This is Rob Brough, Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Isn’t it interesting that tragedy can sometimes bring about some of the best ideas? Such is the case for Dennis Stong. Following a car accident, a member of the Stong family was left with injuries that brought the family into the center of the healthcare arena. Dennis became a Certified Nursing Assistant to help care for his relative and then chose to care for others with similar needs.
What started as his college job turned into his career. He discovered a passion for home health care and tending to the needs of those who can’t care for themselves. His philosophy of treating people with dignity no matter their circumstances quickly resulted in an increased caseload. In 1997, Dennis started Harmony Home Health in the basement of his West Jordan home. By 1998, the company had outgrown Dennis’ basement and he moved into an office in Murray, also adding hospice services to his company’s offerings.
Today, Harmony Home Health and Hospice provides a wide range of services including home health care, hospice, private care, diabetes, wound care, and physical, occupational and speech therapy. One of the company’s most recent additions is the Custom Advantage Program that offers in-home services from massage to 24-hour personal care. Hospice care is designed to provide comfort and assistance for terminally ill patients through the end of their lives. Hospice also assists the patients’ families throughout the dying process and up to a year after the loss of their loved one.
In 2001, Dennis added a pediatric program to care for chronically ill and medically fragile children. The majority of referrals for the program come from Primary Children’s Medical Center. Harmony now has one of the largest pediatric programs in the state.
Dennis says Harmony Home Health and Hospice hasn’t been immune to effects from the economy, but he has focused on upgrading technology and re-designing the company’s systems, including the addition of Internet-based documentation for nurses. He plans to expand his company’s footprint across the Intermountain West while still providing compassionate and competent care.
For Zions Bank, I’m Rob Brough. I’m speaking on business.
