SHIELD-SAFETY

February 24, 2010

This is Rob Brough, Zions Bank, speaking on business.

According to statistics from the National Safety Council, 25 percent of emergency room visits could be avoided with basic first aid and CPR training. That percentage would likely be even greater if more people had the right equipment, knew where it was and how to use it.

Lance Rich feels that way, and through his company, Shield-Safety, he's hoping to spread the word about products he thinks could improve home safety statistics. Shield-Safety focuses on reducing accidental injury through the three sides of protection: safety, first aid and emergency preparedness.

Home safety should start with three basic questions: Do you know what you need? Do you know where it is? Do you know how to use it? Lance and his brothers formed Shield-Safety to address the urgent need for home safety. Many people view first aid as boring or intimidating, but Shield-Safety strives to make understanding and being ready as easy as possible.

The Bluffdale company provides extensive home care kits that put high-quality first aid equipment in a home owner's reach. For instance, the burn gel is designed to stop even the most severe burns. Quick clotting powder immediately stops bleeding. Lance says the powder alone could stop up to five emergency room visits. Other products include itch relief spray, fabric bandages for strains or sprains, alcohol wipes, hand sanitizers and a selection of band-aids and bandages. Kits come in a variety of sizes, including the purse-sized mini edition, the automobile edition for all safety needs while in the car and the extensive home care size.

Shield-Safety is set up so products are sold on a party plan system. Company demonstrators go into people's homes or businesses to talk about the products. This is helping the company reach an entirely new demographic. Shield-Safety is currently concentrated along the Wasatch Front, but Lance and his brothers hope to spread it state, and eventually nation, wide.

For Zions Bank, I'm Rob Brough. I'm speaking on business.
