This is Rob Brough, Zions Bank, speaking on business.

"Live the longer life you love." These words are emblazoned on Jan Miller's business card. She is the fearless leader and president of Stander, a fascinating Logan company that invents and manufactures affordable mobility devices.

Jan was a school teacher by trade with no business experience, but she had a strong desire to make a social and community business contribution. Her grandmother inspired her to found Stander, Inc., a company that provides great products to the fastest-growing segment of our population: Baby Boomers and senior citizens.

Jan's grandma was in her 90s when her health began to deteriorate, but she adamantly refused to be moved into an assisted living center. It didn't matter how many marble floors, flower gardens or bridge clubs the facility had, she wanted to stay in her home. While caring for her grandmother, Jan saw there was a need for affordable assistive devices that could help elderly and disabled people maintain their independence.

Jan's husband, Troy, is an engineer. His expertise aided in the development of more than 20 innovative mobility products. The Metro Travel Walker is a collapsible, lightweight-but-sturdy walker that comes with dual side pockets. Another tool, a rail with a bed handle, enables people to easily sit up in bed and then stand up without assistance. It attaches to any home or hospital bed and includes a safety strap.

A very popular item is the security pole and curve grab iron, a floor-to-ceiling tension-mounted device that can be used anywhere in the home. It is much appreciated in the bathroom or any place where a user is sitting and may need assistance to stand up.

Stander also manufactures many other useful devices. Products can be found in Walgreen's, Wal-Mart, Costco and many other retailers as well as on Amazon.com.

For Zions Bank, I'm Rob Brough. I'm speaking on business.
