THE SERVICE DEPOT

January 26, 2010

This is Rob Brough, Zions Bank, in for Fred Ball, speaking on business.

Bobby Jensen has been cleaning and repairing appliances since the age of 8. His father, Bob Jensen, ran an appliance repair shop and would allow his children to take appliances apart, clean them and put them back together until they could do it perfectly.

By age of 16, Bobby was running service calls for his father's company. After returning from serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2000, Bobby started working full time in the appliance repair industry and has since developed many innovations. He developed the unique business model of the Service Depot after working closely with friends and partners Michael Reis and Matthew Timmons.

Headquartered in Logan, the Service Depot provides some of the most technologically advanced repair work around. Bobby tells me the company does all repair work from a centralized database in real time. Technicians arrive at service calls in parts-laden fuel-efficient service trucks. They are equipped with laptops and a mobile network to video conference with a lead technician in the office in case they have questions with the repair.

This unique feature helps technicians diagnose the problem correctly every time and serves as an important quality control measure. Bobby refers to the system as Double Up Diagnosis and says it's a great way for technicians to avoid mistakes and work off each other's knowledge. He also strongly believes in following up with clients and has a feedback form used not only to gauge how happy a client is with the repair but also for technicians to compete for the honor of being highest ranked on the “status board."

The Service Depot's coverage area extends from the Cache Valley along the Wasatch Front. The virtual system allows technicians to work from anywhere. Bobby has strong relationships with many manufacturers and has made it a point to be good friends with and help out companies that might be considered as competitors.

Bobby says the Service Depot's upcoming plans include working in plumbing, electrical repair and heating and air conditioning.

For Zions Bank, I'm Rob Brough, in for Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
