INCLINE SOFTWARE

January 18, 2010

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

What do you know about your roots? Do you know where your family comes from? Keeping track of your family history is an important responsibility and thanks to tools created by Incline Software, it’s now much easier.

South Jordan-based Incline Software first became involved in the family history industry 16 years ago. Owner Gaylon Findlay says the idea for the company’s main product, Ancestral Quest, came when one of the founding partners took a genealogy class and realized that all the family history programs available at that time were in DOS format even though Windows had just been released. Incline Software began creating Ancestral Quest with the mission of becoming the first company to offer a family history program in Windows format.

In 1999, Incline Software provided The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, well known for its genealogy efforts, the coding to create the Windows versions of Personal Ancestral File (PAF), a family tree program used by genealogists worldwide. The same coding was also licensed to Ancestry.com to create Ancestry Family Tree. Through both programs, millions of users have become familiar with Ancestral Quest, just not by name.

For more than two years now, the LDS Church has been making its new FamilySearch system available to its members, area by area. FamilySearch has invited outside companies, like Incline Software, to help make its vast database available. Incline Software recognized the importance of this data and immediately made Ancestral Quest the first commercial family tree program capable of accessing this data and synchronizing a user’s personal family records with the FamilySearch data.

Just in the last few months, the LDS Church has completed rolling out its system to the LDS members in Utah and Idaho. Because most LDS genealogists have learned to use PAF, which was derived from Ancestral Quest, Incline Software provides an ideal solution. Users already familiar with Ancestral Quest can now transition more easily into using the new FamilySearch.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
