COLLEGE FAST LANE

January 11, 2010

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

I have a granddaughter who is now finalizing plans to enter college this fall. It is a big decision that will impact her in many ways for the rest of her life. So maybe I'll introduce her to Amanda Grow.

Amanda is a great resource for students and parents who need guidance on more effectively navigating the college system. Her Layton company, College Fast Lane, was established to aid prospective and current college students.

With all expenses factored in, the cost of a year of college for an in-state, public university will cost about $15,000 per year, so a four-year degree will cost about $60,000. Out-of-state tuition is even more expensive. Amanda told me that college tuition costs have increased by 439 percent since 1985. With recent funding cuts affecting higher education, the costs escalate much faster than the inflation rate.

Somewhere along the line, society has linked the achievement of a bachelor's degree with the time period of four years, but a student with a plan who knows how to work the system can finish his degree in less than four years. Without a plan, it could take him much longer. I was impressed to learn about Amanda's personal college experience: she received her bachelor's degree from BYU in two years and a master's degree from the University of Utah in two semesters. That saved a lot of time and huge amount money.

College Fast Lane is the result of Amanda's experience. Her objective is to teach time-saving principles and strategies so students can cut semesters or even years from their college experience, saving thousands of dollars. The company offers a five-installment seminar series to help high school juniors and seniors decide what to study and learn how to work the college system before they enter it. Amanda recently put her seminar series on DVD to make the information more widely available to prospective college students.

The principles and strategies taught in College Fast Lane seminars are designed to help students plan for a quicker and less expensive higher education experience.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
