December is a big month not only for holiday parties and gatherings, but also for weddings. And no wedding can be complete without a delicious and beautiful wedding cake!

Dawna Erickson learned at the tender age of 8 that she had a passion for making and decorating cakes. Recognizing natural ability when they saw it, Dawna's parents bought professional equipment for her at the age of 12, which Dawna experimented with all through high school, never dreaming it would become anything more than a hobby.

Several years later, Dawna and her husband were building a new home. She was ready to turn her hobby into a business venture, so she started looking into the requirements for putting a commercial kitchen in her basement so she could be at home with her young children. In 1988 her dream became a reality as Wedding Cakes by Dawna was created.

Today, Dawna says her Pleasant Grove business specializes in personalized service and creating the perfect cake, complete with butter cream or fondant icing, for any occasion. Wedding cakes are the most requested item, and Dawna's staff of nine employees can design any cake a bride might envision. All brides receive a one-on-one consultation. If they come prepared with their wedding colors and theme, Dawna can easily incorporate both into the cake.

The number of cakes the business will produce each day is limited to ensure brides receive exactly the cake they want. Groom's cakes, created specifically for the groom, are a growing trend and something Dawna and her staff are happy to produce.

Dawna tells me Wedding Cakes by Dawna grows every year. Eventually she sees herself moving to a store-front and possibly becoming a cake-decorating instructor at conventions, but for now, she hopes to keep offering the same personalized service and quality product her business is already known for.
