This is Fred Ball, Zions Bank, speaking on business.
How lucky it is for someone to be able to get paid for what they love to do. Such is the case for Amber Devoge.
Amber tells me she has always been passionate about skincare. She received her esthetician's license in 1998 and spent seven years working for a day spa in Sugarhouse, managing the aesthetics department. Eventually she became the education coordinator for the spa's top skincare line and traveled to spas around the state teaching others about the product. Amber reached a point where she felt she could progress more if she went out on her own, so three years ago, she launched Native Beauty.
Native Beauty is a spa that provides a range of facials and waxing services in addition to pedicures and back treatments. All facials are customized to each client's skin type and condition. The most popular is the Glow, which includes cleansing, toning, exfoliation, massage, and a masque that leaves skin glowing and refreshed. Waxing services include leg, underarm, eyebrow and bikini waxes.
Although Native Beauty started as a home-based business, it grew enough that Amber is now renting a space in Draper called the Spa Lounge. The increase in space enabled her to accept and work with more clients. She tells me she established a solid referral system that helps her generate new clients because both the client who made the referral and the new client receive a discount on a future service.
One of the factors that set Native Beauty apart is that Amber is present 100 percent of the time during treatments, often providing hand or foot massages. Each service is also customized for the client receiving it. Amber feels lucky that she has never felt like the work she does is a job but instead enjoys serving her clients, especially in such a tough economic climate.
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
