LYMAN PRINTING AND STAMP COMPANY

November 9, 2009

This is Fred Ball, Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Back in the early 1950s, John Lyman worked for the Deseret Press, the printing company that formerly printed the Deseret News. He enjoyed his work but found himself longing for something different. In 1955, John left the press to start his own company, Lyman Printing.

In the early days, the company primarily did typesetting, but a short time later it transitioned into printing instead. And throughout the years the company's services expanded: In the 1970s, John started making rubber stamps and in the 80s, he added signs to the company's repertoire. Today, John's company is known as Lyman Printing and Stamp Company.

Dave Lyman, who now runs the South Salt Lake company, tells me Lyman Printing and Stamp Company provides all types of business printing such as letterheads, envelopes, labels, rubber stamps and pads, desk and door signs and name badges. The business specializes in legal printing and scratch pads and works with a number of attorneys, printing their letterheads and envelopes.

Dave says the company has also found a niche in printing smaller quantities of envelopes in runs up to 40,000. While most companies that make signs use vinyl letters, Lyman Printing and Stamp Company offers engraved signs, a rare service.

John died in 2003, and Dave tells me his family is doing its best to carry on his father's legacy. Aside from adding more services and slowly transitioning into digital printing methods, Lyman Printing and Stamp Company has stayed mostly the same over the years.

Dave prides Lyman Printing and Stamp Company's ability to keep its customers, some of whom have been coming to Lyman for 30 years. He hopes to see the company continue providing personalized service.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
