SNIP-ITS

June 17, 2009

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Taking your child to get a haircut can be a frustrating experience. I remember a few times when I went with my wife, Joyce, to get our daughters' hair cut during their childhood years. It's not one of my fondest memories. Although many salons offer haircuts for youngsters, they aren't always kid friendly.

That's why Jim and Rossana Yorgason have done Davis County residents such a great service by opening Snip-its. Snip-its is an entertaining hair salon for kids. The unique shop features a colorful environment and interactive computer games to keep children occupied while getting haircuts. It also offers glamour birthday parties for little girls, up-dos and party dos for special events, mini-manicures and it carries its own line of hypoallergenic, tear-free products.

Owning and operating a salon is not something either Jim or Rossana were planning to do. Both are pharmacists at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, but they wanted a business their entire family could get involved with. They were intrigued by the Snip-its concept after they discovered it on the Internet. Further research and a visit to an existing franchise location only cemented the Yorgasons' desire to open their own Snip-its. That was in 2006.

Two years later, in November 2008, the Yorgasons saw their dream materialze as they opened Utah's first Snip-its location in Layton. Jim says the economic situation wasn't positive at the time, but he and Rossana were too far in to back out. Despite the challenging times, the Yorgasons say the down economy has allowed them to be more selective in hiring hair stylists, as the pool of applicants has grown.

Snip-its has been warmly received since its opening last fall. Not only does the salon help its young clients feel special, but parents enjoy bringing their children to a fun environment that is completely kid friendly.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
