Dave Updike has a great passion for photography. As a third-generation photographer, you could even say that photography is in his blood.

For the last 33 years, Dave has been the owner and operator of JayLynn Studios on Highland Drive in Salt Lake City. JayLynn Studios specializes in a variety of portrait services for families, bridal parties, high school seniors, working professionals and teams. Family groups account for a large portion of the work JayLynn Studios provides, but high school senior pictures, wedding and team photography are also popular.

JayLynn Studios has been serving Salt Lake and the surrounding areas for more than 100 years. Two business partners, Jay and Lynn, opened the studio together. After Lynn died, Jay ran the studio by himself. The Updike family ran a successful portrait studio in Arizona for many years and eventually decided to expand into Utah. In the early 1970s they purchased JayLynn Studios and found a perfect niche for their photographic expertise.

Dave takes an innovative approach to photography, mixing traditional with new age, black and white with color, and classic with edgy. Portraits are truly a blend of clients' ideas and photographic techniques. Dave does his best to put patrons at ease to better capture personality. JayLynn clients appreciate the professionalism, wonderful staff and terrific service, all of which keep them coming back year after year.

With the help of talented hair and makeup stylists, Dave created the CoverLook, a unique photographic concept. At the CoverLook, located in each JayLynn Studio, clients receive a full Hollywood treatment from a talented hair and makeup team that prepares them for a high-fashion photo shoot. A new location for the CoverLook recently opened on State Street in Salt Lake City.

This month Dave is opening a second JayLynn Studios superstore in Sandy. The new studio is a rare creation he dreamed up years ago. He is committed to continuing JayLynn Studios' reputation as a cutting-edge photography studio.
