CEDAR VILLAGE FLORAL

June 27, 2008

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into Cedar Village Floral on Harrison Boulevard in Ogden was the wonderful smell. "How neat it would be to work in beautiful surroundings with a great smell in the air," I thought.

Owner Jamie Fulmer tells me she loves to come to work every day and enjoy the gorgeous flowers and wonderful scents.

Jamie is a very young business owner. She started working at Cedar Village Floral after graduating from Fremont High School. The previous owner, Pam Kap, was a neighbor when Jamie was a little girl and Jamie, who loved flowers, asked for a job. Several years later, Pam was ready to retire and asked Jamie if she would like to buy the business. Jamie scrambled to gain some financing, and now at 26, she is the proud proprietor of a thriving business that has enjoyed 25 successful years.

Cedar Village is the busiest from fall to spring. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, Administrative Professionals Week, Easter, Mother's Day and Memorial Day all generate great flower business. Jamie says business slows a little in the summer months, but the store stays busy creating beautiful wedding arrangements.

Jamie also does a large amount of business for funerals. And as a neighbor of Weber State University, she provides fresh floral arrangements for university events. While I was in the shop, she was preparing flowers for the talented actor and singer Mandy Patinkin, who was performing there.

I was curious about where the flowers come from. Jamie says she receives her inventory from all over the world including California, Holland, Australia, Columbia and Florida. She also buys from several Utah wholesalers.

Jamie enjoys her work at Cedar Village Floral because it allows her to make other people happy every day.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
