GALERIA DEL SOL

May 9, 2008

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Letty Molina and Kathy Silva have a passion for Latin art. After moving to Utah from California, both women missed seeing it. The two friends, who had worked together previously, decided to translate their enjoyment of Latin art into a business and opened Galeria del Sol in December 2007.

Galeria del Sol is a Latin folk art gallery offering elegant and inspiring art pieces from various Latin American countries. Patrons can see just by walking into the gallery and feeling its ambience how different it is. The walls are a bright textured yellow and the artwork is uniquely Latin. Letty says the gallery, located in Pleasant Grove, is modeled after two galleries her cousin owns in Southern California.

Some of the art pieces the gallery offers include traditional pottery, Argentine jewelry, Sermel paper mache products and Talavera ceramic sculptures, both from Mexico. Galeria del Sol is the exclusive dealer in Utah for Alexander Flores sculptures. Currently, his art, made from ceramics and paper mache, is only available elsewhere in galleries in New York, Mexico and other international cities.

Galeria del Sol is also pleased to offer Premium Brazilian Nativa Yerba Mate, a traditional South American organic drink high in antioxidants. Once a month, the gallery will host a "Noche de Mate" or an evening of mate, where patrons can try the drink while touring the gallery. Mate has been one of the most popular items to date, Letty says, and she hopes this trend can continue.

Letty and Kathy would like to see Galeria del Sol grow to become the premier Latin American folk art gallery in the state. They enjoy showcasing both artists and their unique artwork.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
