Tyler Jensen never set out to be a business owner, but through a series of circumstances, that's exactly what happened.

Tyler studied interior design for a year and a half and discovered he had a talent for figuring out style, design and color. A short time later, he started making men's bags, mostly for himself. However, other people expressed interest in the bags, so he began producing them on a larger scale.

While getting his hair cut one day, he discovered his stylist was interested in a bag that would hold all of her styling equipment. Tyler went home and designed a hair holster with pockets for combs, scissors and other hair accessories. He took it back to the stylist, who loved it. This experience helped him decide to create and launch Rite Lane.

Through Rite Lane, Tyler creates custom hand-made designer men's bags, hair holsters and laptop bags. He came up with the style and design for the bags on his own, mostly through trial and error, he tells me. The bags come in a variety of colors, and Tyler intends for each one to be unique.

He says Salt Lake City has been a good market for his bags because many people like to buy locally-made goods. Thus far, Rite Lane's most popular item is the hair holsters. Tyler has taken the products to salons all over the Salt Lake Valley, and cosmetologists love them. The holster is so unique and convenient that it has wide appeal. In the next few weeks, Tyler plans to launch his Web site, ritelanedesign.com (spelled r-i-t-e), which will help expand his customer base.

Once Tyler has established his Rite Lane brand, he would like to perhaps branch out into a clothing line and a few other unique products he has in mind. For the time being, he plans to continue producing his hand-made custom bags.
