The Scofield Reservoir holds special significance for Justin Jones and Burke Priest. Both men own cabins there and feel the area is one of the most beautiful in the state.

So three years ago, when the opportunity presented itself to get involved with the annual Scofield Triathlon, Justin, Burke and Justin's brother Jordan Jones, became business partners and formed Scofield Sports. The company's main purpose is to operate the annual Scofield Triathlon, but it also sells boat docks.

Scofield Sports is the Utah distributor for Connect-A-Dock, a national brand of modular docks. Interest in selling docks arose when Justin and Burke discovered they had a need for docks themselves. They have found success selling their product to everyone from private individuals to Boy Scout camps and government agencies.

Justin says he, Burke and Jordan chose to take over the triathlon because they love the venue and felt they could take the event to the next level. Under their management, the event has steadily grown from 75 athletes to an expected 500 participants for this year's July 19 event.

Triathlons are growing in popularity, and the Scofield event attracts a large crowd not only because of the beautiful venue but also because of its family-oriented activities. All participants and their families can enjoy a barbecue following the event, along with music from a live band. The course also has the highest elevation in the state and is the second highest in the nation, which makes it even more challenging.

Justin and Burke have toyed with the idea of adding more events to Scofield Sports, such as a century bike ride or a half marathon. They have also considered working with officials at Scofield State Park to turn it into a designated triathlon training area, but no plans have been finalized yet. In the meantime, they plan to continue enjoying the business opportunities the Scofield Reservoir presents.
