NEWSLETTERS INK

March 31, 2008

This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

Fifteen years ago with slightly less than $200 in her pocket, Sophie Hanson started Newsletters Ink. As a single mother of two children, it was a difficult decision. The early years were grueling; Sophie worked long hours as the business grew slowly.

With no formal training in designing, writing or printing, Sophie began Newsletters Ink after initially creating a newsletter for a client. She realized newsletters had the potential to become a full-time business and started creating newsletters for multiple businesses. Sophie's hard work paid off and today her business has not only survived but is thriving!

Focusing on nonprofit organizations and trade associations, the company provides publishing services in the form of newsletters, trade journals and magazines for more than 95 clients. Newsletters Ink's serves clients across the United States, and annual sales are close to $3 million each year.

Today Newsletters Ink, located in Murray, employs 28 people and creates up to 100 publications each month. During her 15 years of business, Sophie has streamlined her processes so all of her services are performed in-house. Newsletters Ink has full design capabilities — in addition to providing printing and mailing services.

Newsletters Ink has also made great efforts to be environmentally conscious of how it does business. This past year, Newsletters Ink became the first publisher in the United States to print on paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and Sustainable Forestry Initiative and is one of only three print facilities in Utah to carry both certifications. All Newsletters Ink publications now carry the FSC and/or SFI logos — a sign that Newsletters Ink clients are "green," which Sophie says has benefited both Newsletters Ink and its clients.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
