This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.
Becoming the owners of their own business was mostly a matter of circumstance for Maurice and Sharon Van Zutphen and Ken and Rina Miller.
As a result of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the company Maurice worked for went out of business, and he found himself unemployed. Ken Miller was teaching graphic design classes at Utah Career College. Sharon and Rina both worked for a company that took photos of Little League players and teams.
After the owner of the company Sharon and Rina worked for decided to follow other photographic pursuits, Maurice and Sharon went into partnership with Ken and Rina and purchased the Little League photography portion of the business. They launched Sports Imaging of Utah in January 2003 and have been going strong ever since.
Sports Imaging of Utah takes team and individual portraits of youth sports teams for public and private leagues. As the exclusive county-wide contract holder for the Salt Lake County Sports and Recreation Department, the business serves around 65,000 children each year for county sports including Junior Jazz, volleyball, outdoor soccer, Lacrosse, baseball and hockey. It also photographs sporting events around the state and in several neighboring states.
Sports Imaging is a family-owned and operated business, which means one of the four owners is always involved with photo shoots. Maurice says that since all photos are processed, printed and assembled in-house at their Murray office, the turnaround time for orders is fast, normally one week.
The growth of the business has been phenomenal. Maurice says all four owners have a great passion for photography, which has contributed to their success. He hopes to see Sports Imaging of Utah continue providing Utah families with high-quality sports photos.
For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
