As the owner of a large multi-state human resources outsourcing company, Michelyn Farnsworth decided she was ready for something different. She found all the traveling required for her job was exhausting, and she wanted to start a smaller company stationed close to home.

In December 1999, Michelyn teamed up with her husband, John, to launch Innovative Staffing, Inc., (or ISI), a human resource outsourcing provider concentrated in Utah. ISI provides businesses with comprehensive, customizable and cost-effective payroll, tax and benefit administration, government compliance and risk management services. The company has grown from its humble beginnings with Michelyn and John to now include 25 in-house employees and about 260 clients.

In November 2007, Innovative acquired Evolution Services, which provides a similar range of services, and now serves clients in the medical industry, a niche that Innovative previously hadn't been able to reach. Combining the two businesses increased both ISI's client base and coverage area, as well as enabled ISI to offer its clients the best and most competitive health care coverage possible.

Innovative Staffing was also named as one of only 12 recipients of Utah Business Magazine's 2007 "Utah's Best Companies to Work For" award. Michelyn says ISI was honored to be a recipient of the award which sums up the company very well. They love their employees, staff and clients and have tried to keep the business small so it can remain personal. The business grows at a rate of about 30 percent each year, which keeps growth manageable and is a trend Michelyn hopes can continue.
