Kevin Simister strongly believes in the idea that it's never just business — it's always personal. He carries this philosophy into Hawkins, Cloward & Simister, a full-service CPA firm, where he is the managing partner.

The Orem company provides a wide range of financial services, from preparing income taxes to audits and financial counseling. The practice has consistently ranked in the top 10 accounting firms statewide and has worked hard to maintain its reputation for excellence. The firm's clients include entrepreneurs, medical professionals, attorneys, engineers and software consultants.

In addition to their CPA work, employees are encouraged to be involved in community activities and events. Instead of the traditional number crunchers, Kevin says those who do well at the firm are very people-oriented, building strong relationships of trust with clients and doing their best to fulfill clients' needs.

Hawkins, Cloward & Simister was founded in 1951 by Richard Hawkins and Glen Gardener. Kevin joined the firm in 1975, fresh out of college, and says its growth has been continuous over its 56-year history.

This year Kevin was named as 2007 Outstanding CPA in Public Practice by the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants. Credentials for the award include someone who exemplifies what a CPA ought to be, has high technical standards and consistently does great work. Kevin tells me he wishes the award could go to all of his associates, and he credits the firm for his success.
